Historian. Presidential advisor. Right-wing extremist with a fully-weaponized exo-suit and a genuinely alarming long-term plan for global domination. "The gentleman's name is POWER!" (XF Annual #9)

Professor Power — battle-armored villain in yellow and green
Issue #117 · 1982

"World peace is only achievable when power is concentrated in the right hands."

— Professor Power, missing the point entirely

Powers & Arsenal

The man inside the suit is dangerous. The suit makes him catastrophic.

Full Body Battle Armor

Custom-engineered exo-suit providing enhanced durability, integrated weapons, and the full visual intimidation package in yellow and green.

Electron Beam

Fired directly from the right forefinger. Compact, targeted, and frankly one of the most specific weapon integrations in Marvel villain history.

Jet-Powered Flight

Integrated jet engines allow sustained autonomous flight. Because a historian with globalist ambitions needs efficient transportation.

Strategic Genius

PhD in political science and history. Advised the President of the United States. Founded a shadow empire. Outmaneuvered S.H.I.E.L.D. multiple times. Don't sleep on the academic.

Comic History

Created as an obscure villain in 1982 who turned out to be anything but (at least to me). He's faced Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Avengers, and S.H.I.E.L.D. — and walked away from all of them.

MTU #117

Marvel Team-Up #117

First appearance. Spider-Man and Wolverine are tested inside Power's flying castle. A new extremist with a weaponized suit, a private army dressed as Roman soldiers, and a suspiciously grandiose name.

MTU #118

Marvel Team-Up #118

Power kidnaps Professor X and attempts to harvest his psychic abilities through Mentallo. A stray psychic blast leaves his son Matthew's mind irreparably damaged. Things escalate.

MTU #124

Marvel Team-Up #124

Power transfers his consciousness into his son Matthew's body to gain superhuman strength. He immediately goes after the X-Men. Spider-Man and Beast intervene — the Beast's mother talking him down is the only thing that saves them.

DEF #126–130

The Defenders #126–130

As "Number One," founds the third Secret Empire. Deploys Leviathan, Mad Dog, and Mutant Force against the Defenders. Attempts to launch a mind-control satellite to trigger World War III. The man does not think small.

IM #225

Iron Man #225

Cameo. Power's stolen Stark technology puts him squarely in the crosshairs of the Armor Wars.

CAP #338

Captain America #338

John Walker (Captain America) is sent to bring Power in. Walker loses control and beats him to death. An unambiguous end. Narrator: It was not the end.

CAP #350

Captain America #350

Cameo. A brief appearance in a landmark issue — also the one where John Walker, the man who beat Power to death, hands back the shield. Small world.

AWC ANN. #7

West Coast Avengers Annual #7

Power resurfaces running an underground armor-dealing operation, selling Iron Monger and Force Ten suits to the highest bidders. Iron Man, Darkhawk, and the Scarlet Witch shut it down — but don't stop him.

SSM #197–199

Spectacular Spider-Man #197–199

Returns in a cybernetically augmented version of Matthew's body. Takes down the X-Men single-handedly. Jean Grey enters his mind and forces him to face his guilt. The suit becomes a life-support system. S.H.I.E.L.D. takes the castle.

XF ANN. #9

X-Factor Annual #9

Power's disembodied consciousness animates two robots to hijack a S.H.I.E.L.D. transport carrying his own cybernetic body. He takes it back, fights off X-Factor, and escapes. The man is nothing if not resourceful.

IIM V2 #1

Invincible Iron Man Vol. 2 #1

Cameo. Still out there, still scheming — a brief appearance in the opening issue of Matt Fraction's landmark run.

NOMAD & CAP V

Nomad: Girl Without a World & Captain America Vol. 5

Infiltrates a high school undercover as "Doctor Powers" to run a Secret Empire mind-control beta test on students. Continues operating from a sewer prison while directing operatives against Nomad and Arãa in Captain America #602–605.

MODOK HG #2

M.O.D.O.K.: Head Games #2

Most recent confirmed appearance. Attends the Criminal Technology Show in Las Vegas, bidding on new weapons. Business as usual.
